The international year began with a long-awaited return: the Friendship Tournament in Denmark, which was finally able to take place again after the break due to the pandemic. Our trip was special because we not only brought the third and fourth place teams from the Swiss final, but also a team from the new Future Innovators category. This meant that we were represented in Odense with a proud delegation of seven teams.
The first day of the competition was dominated by preparation: the teams set up their workstations and tested their robots in order to be perfectly prepared for the coming days. But the highlight came the next day, when we went on an exciting trip to the Lego House in Billund. On this exclusive day, the Lego House belonged to the WRO students alone. The atmosphere was electrifying and for a moment we forgot the tension of the days ahead.
Saturday and Sunday were all about the scoring runs. On the first day, the robots collected points in three regular heats, while on the second day they had to solve a surprise challenge. The results were remarkable: in RoboMission Elementary, Switzerland came 9th and 10th out of a total of 53 teams, in the Juniors we came 11th and 21st out of 47 teams, the Senior teams came 7th and 10th out of 41 teams and the Future Innovators achieved a respectable 6th place out of 10 teams.
The event was excellently organized and allowed all participants to make new friends within the WRO. It was more than just a competition – it was an opportunity to network, share experiences and live the enthusiasm for robotics together.
