Exciting Categories

In RoboMission Category, a Lego robot drives though a course and solves tasks there.

In Future Innovators, participants conduct a research project and develop a robot prototype for it.

And the youngest roboticists make their first experiences with robotics in the Starter-Category.

Competitions at 9 locations in 3 language regions

The WRO would like to offer competitions for teams from all over Switzerland. Therefore, there will be nine regional competitions in 2024. This year we are also represented in Ticino for the second time, in addition to a regional competition in Lausanne and seven locations in German-speaking Switzerland.

The grand Swiss final will then take place in Hausen AG.

Earth Allies, das Motto für 2024

Earth
Allies

This is the motto of the 2024 competition.

This year’s host country is Türkiye. The seasonal challenges will be published here on January 15, 2024.

What is the WRO?

The WRO® (World Robot OlympiadTM) is a robotics competition for children and young people. There are different competition categories, but all of them focus on the design and programming of a robot. Children and young people from 6 to 19 years old can participate in the competition in teams of 2 or 3 people and an adult coach. Teamwork, problem solving and computer skills are trained – along with thrills and lots of fun!

The classic form of the WRO competitions is the RoboMission category, in which a robot has to solve tasks independently on a playing field within 2 minutes, e.g. moving objects or sorting them by color. Only Lego robots may be used here.

New in Switzerland is the Future Innovators category, in which the teams work on a research task relating to the theme of the year and invent a robot that can contribute to solving a problem in the real world.

In Switzerland, there is also a Starter Category for children aged 6 to 10 who are making their first attempts at robotics.

The best teams in the RoboMission and Future Innovators categories qualify for the WRO World Finals or a friendly tournament.

Over 70,000 children and teens from more than 90 countries worldwide participate in WRO, giving them the opportunity to improve their problem-solving skills and understanding of technology through this challenging robotics competition – all while having a lot of fun!

WRO Switzerland would like to thank all partners who have made our competitions possible!
