The LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime set is a hands-on learning concept for STEM lessons in Cycles 2 and 3. The SPIKE™ Prime set combines colorful LEGO elements with easy-to-use hardware and a child-friendly drag-and-drop programming language based on Scratch. It encourages students to think critically and solve complex problems – regardless of their current learning level. From simple starter projects to complex construction possibilities, the SPIKE Prime set helps all students learn the basics of STEM subjects in a fun way and acquire important 21st century skills. In this way, children are optimally prepared for their professional future and have a lot of fun at the same time.
The programmable hub is shaped like a LEGO brick and forms the heart of the SPIKE Prime system. The device offers state-of-the-art technical functions and yet is simple and intuitive to operate. It has 6 inputs/outputs, a customizable light matrix (5 x 5), Bluetooth, a speaker, a 6-axis gyro sensor and a rechargeable battery. The SPIKE Prime set also includes 3 different sized motors and several high-precision sensors. With the hub, the LEGO® Technic elements and the numerous colorful building blocks, students can build creative robots and motorized models that interact with their environment. Thanks to the many connections on the hub, the motors and sensors as well as the new, large building blocks, students need less time to build and can therefore learn more. With the robust storage box and 2 sorting trays, preparation and tidying up takes minimal time. The smaller sorting trays are ideal for tables where there is not so much space.
The models can be programmed using the app for tablets or computers. It is based on the popular Scratch programming language and inspires teachers and students with its intuitive programming interface. In addition to the first-step exercises, the app contains 3 tasks whose content is aligned with the current STEM curricula and focuses on the topics of mechanical engineering and computer science. The tasks are tailored to 45-minute lessons. They encourage students to think critically and solve complex problems. This allows them to improve their STEM skills in a fun way – regardless of their previous learning level. The comprehensive, interactive teaching materials for SPIKE™ Prime are available online and provide teachers with everything they need to confidently implement the learning units in the classroom, even without prior knowledge.
