1. Team and coach
1.1. When taking part in WRO, children and young people work together in teams. A team consists of two or three team members and a coach. A coach and an individual team member do not form a complete team and therefore cannot participate.
1.2. A coach cannot be a team member at the same time.
1.3. A coach must be of legal age, i.e. at least 18 years old, on the day of registration.
1.4. A coach can supervise several teams at the same time and manage them in the registration tool.
1.5. A coach is responsible for supervising the team members of his/her team during the competition. WRO Switzerland or its partners will not be responsible for this under any circumstances.
2. Registration for the competition and fees
2.1. Registration for the competition takes place exclusively via the registration tool, which can be accessed at https://wro.swiss/en/registration/.
2.2. Registration for the 2025 WRO season is open from December 1, 2024 until March 15, 2025. Registration after this date is not possible.
2.3. A registration fee of CHF 100.00 per team must be paid for registration. Payment is made by credit card. This amount will be refunded after participation in a Regional Competition. If no bank details are provided for the refund, a deposit will be made into the hardship fund instead. On request, this fund can be used to grant support for participation in our competitions to teams that would otherwise not be able to participate.
2.4. The registration fee includes the following material for the competition, which will be sent out from January 22, 2025:
- RoboMission: a playing field mat for all teams; two construction sets (basic set 45811 and extension set 45819) for teams taking part in the competition for the first time.
- WRO Starterone field mat for all teams; one set-up set (basic set 45811) for teams taking part in the competition for the first time
- Future Engineers: one field mat for all teams
Additional playing field mats or construction sets can be ordered in our store. Attention: The brick sets are only available in limited quantities. We reserve the right to limit orders for additional sets so that no team is left empty-handed.
2.5. Teams of all categories register for one of our locations in one age group. The relevant age limits must be taken into account. Not every category or age group is offered in every competition.
2.6. Registration must be completed in full by 10.04.2025 at the latest, i.e. all details of teams and participants must be recorded and all declarations of consent (see section 5.2) must be completed. and uploaded. For subsequent additions and corrections, an additional, non-refundable late registration fee of CHF 30.00 per team will be charged to cover the additional costs. Participation is not possible without this payment before the day of the competition.
2.7. If the complete entry is not made by 14 days before the day of the competition, participation in the competition is no longer possible, as there is not enough time to provide all materials in time.
2.8. If an organization or school registers more than 4 teams for the competition, we reserve the right to review the allocation to the various locations with regard to capacity utilization and a fair competition for all and, if necessary, to adjust it in consultation with the person responsible.
2.9. The following information about the registered teams can be published on our website and/or the ranking lists: Team name, category, age group.
3. Unregistering from the competition and refund
3.1. If it is not possible for the team to take part in the competition, the team must be deregistered via the registration tool.
3.2. If a team cancels by January 20, 2025 at the latest, a full refund of the registration fee is possible.
3.3. If you cancel your registration after January 20, 2025, you can apply for a partial refund of CHF 50.00, provided that all materials received (playing field mat, set-up kits) are returned complete and undamaged.
3.4. Cancellations after the registration deadline will be accepted. There will be no refund of the registration fee. If the cancellation takes place after April 10, 2025, a cancellation fee of CHF 100.00 will be charged to cover the expenses for the materials already produced or ordered.
3.5. If a team does not show up on the day of the competition without canceling beforehand, a no-show fee of CHF 200.00 will be charged to cover the expenses incurred (material for the competition day, catering, etc.). The right to a refund of the registration fee also expires.
3.6. If too few teams register for a competition or in a category / age group, the event may be canceled. In this case, we offer teams the opportunity to participate at another location. If this is not possible, we will refund the registration fee against return of all materials received.
4. Competition categories and age groups
4.1. The WRO Competitions 2025 will be offered in Switzerland in the following competition categories:
Details can be found on the Categories and Age Groups page.
4.2. A team can only participate in one category and only in one age group. The same persons may not participate in several teams, categories or age groups in one WRO season.
4.3. All team members must be in the respective age group, i.e. born in the specified years. No exceptions are made for younger or older team members. The decisive factor is always the year of birth of a team member and not the age on the day of the competition.
4.4. The detailed, binding rules for the respective categories will be available in the download area from January 15, 2025.
5. Data protection information and use of images
5.1. Data protection and the use of photo and video material are very important to us. As we mainly work with children and young people in our projects, we see ourselves as having a special responsibility. We therefore strive for the greatest possible transparency in the collection, use and disclosure of data and pay attention to the context in which data is processed and photos and videos are used.
5.2. Detailed information on the use of data can be found in our privacy policy .
5.3. A signed declaration of consent regarding data protection, image rights and disclaimer is required for participation in our competitions. A signature of the legal representative is required for participants who are minors.
6. behavior as a team and team coach (WRO guiding principles)
6.1. With the WRO competitions, we want to give children and young people a great experience and get them interested in robotics and technology. We and the worldwide World Robot Olympiad Association are particularly keen to point out that participants are responsible for building and programming the robots (models) themselves.
6.2. The World Robot Olympiad Association has developed global guiding principles specifically for the teams, which demonstrate the global understanding in this matter. We have translated these guidelines for teams and ask every coach to clearly inform the team about these guidelines. You can find a translated version of the guiding principles on our website.
